In the residences, a series of activities are carried out which we call "itineraries" with the aim of enhancing the different abilities and skills of the people, always taking into account their preferences.
One of the activities carried out is the experimentation of the senses, and today we are talking specifically about chromatic experimentation using a light table. This is a very new itinerary that began a few days ago and is carried out once a week with a group of users of the Fontajau residence in Girona.
The light table is an ideal resource for chromatic experimentation because it is a surface with a light base that allows you to experiment sensory. Light naturally attracts and transforms materials, giving them a new dimension.
It is a resource that belongs to the Reggio Emilia educational approach, a pedagogy that recognizes the person as the protagonist and with the ability to create their own learning promoted by their curiosity, motivation and imagination.
The materials we use to work with the light table are diverse: from translucent papers that can be superimposed, a mixture of paints, sand, colored feathers, magnetic pieces, rice, and so on.
Some of the benefits of light table work are:
- Increases curiosity
- It allows to enhance concentration and attention
- Allows the manipulation of different textures
- Encourages free play and imagination
- Allows sensory stimulation through the experimentation of different senses
- A special space is created that promotes relaxation
