Rebooks, reuse of books for social transformation
Open projectProject launched in March 2019 from Grup Èxit (formed by the insertion company of Caritas -Ecosol-, the Drissa Foundation and the Ramon Noguera Foundation), which is based on the reuse of books with social value.
Through the collection, recycling and sale of secondhand books, a new avenue of employment for socially vulnerable people is created.
How it works?
Anyone who wants to collaborate with this project can deposit the books they no longer need in the red Ecosol containers, which retain their original use (clothing collection) but now also serve this purpose. Currently over 80 containers are distributed in 28 municipalities. Stickers indicate that in addition to clothing, literary or other works can also be left on the garment.
Later, Ecosol delivers them to the Ramon Noguera Foundation's occupational center, which is responsible for assessing and classifying them. The next step is taken by the Drissa Foundation, where people from the pre-employment service make the computer registration, which will be used for the last step: the sale of books.
Points of sale:
The sale, at very economical prices, will be made from 3 points of the entities themselves:
- Tasting Workshop lafundación (C / Industria 22 · Girona)
- Biodrissa shop (C / Ciutadans · Girona)
- Bar Cafeteria El Coro (Sarrià de Ter)
In the first phase of the project, the titles will only be sold in these stores, although it is expected that in the medium term they will also be available online. This is one of the potential of Rebooks, precisely because it links to an international website and because 65% of the sales of the original project (a model born in a social entity in Israel) are made online. In fact, the project is linked to an international network originating from the Israeli entity Shekulo Tov, and is based on a computer program created for this purpose, which the Gironaese partners have translated into Catalan and allows you to catalog, track and sell used books.
This social initiative complements the activities that the three entities already have in place, while fitting in with the line of sustainable activities that provide opportunities for people in a situation of socioeconomic vulnerability.
