Demonstration project for saving water in the washing of vehicles
Closed projectThe MinAqua project is a demonstration project with co-financing from the European Union in the framework of the LIFE program of the DG - Environment Policy & Governance.
The main objective of the MinAqua project is to specify the technical and environmental solution to minimize the consumption of mains water and thus reduce the volume and pollutant load generated in the car wash activity.
Specific objectives:
1. Demonstrate that soft or natural treatments can effectively treat wastewater from car wash systems.
2. Demonstrate that the use of innovative biodegradable detergents can help remove dirt from vehicles and at the same time reduce the amount of water needed for each wash.
3. Demonstrate that the application of environmentally friendly final products (waxes and the like) can help extend the life of the wash, preventing the accumulation of dirt on the surface of the vehicle.
4. Demonstrate that the use of these detergents and waxes help to reduce the pollutant load of the wastewater from the washing process, improving the efficiency of the treatment.
5. Check whether the quality of water recycled using soft treatment systems is acceptable for certain vehicle washing processes and thus manage to reduce water consumption in the network.
6. Publish technical studies and practical guides to disseminate the results and experience of the project to the different parties involved (scientific, professional and general public), as well as promote the implementation of these guides and technologies in other sectors .
7. Finally, to promote the integral management of the water through the different political estates. On the one hand, it is intended to motivate the creation of municipal ordinances relating to water consumption and quality, especially mentioning the need to include water recycling treatments in urban and industrial activities. On the other hand, disseminate data and improve control over water consumption and pollution through public documents.
