The Catalan Union of Child Development and Early Care Centers (UCCAP), a federation to which the CDIAPs of the Ramon Noguera Foundation belong, has published its report on the situation of early care for the years 2020/2021, with data that show a lack of resources to deal with the saturation of these centers.
The report gives an x-ray of the sector and shows the increase in user families by 244% in the last decade, as well as highlighting the care pressure and underfunding with which early care services in Catalonia work. .
It also calls for the upgrading of resources to reduce the saturation of services and the availability of resources to increase prevention and detection activity, which would help reduce the number of serious cases. Demands to overcome the challenges they face include better coordination of the overall child care system in order to provide better care for children and their families.
Some of the main objectives proposed in the report are: to increase by 37% the agreed hours in order to achieve a frequency of care per child between 1 and 1.2 hours per week and to offer a coverage of 10% of the population to all the territories of Catalonia.
