Helga Nuell visits the construction area of the new residential equipment in Sant Daniel

25-04-2024

The territorial director of the Department of Social Rights in Girona, Helga Nuell, visited last Thursday the construction of the Foundation's new residential facility in Sant Daniel.

The social initiative, driven by the collaboration of the Foundation and the Monastery of Sant Daniel itself, will allow us to respond to the growing need for housing for people with intellectual disabilities in a complex social and economic context.

Salvi Amagat, president of the Foundation, and Carles Garrido, member of the board of trustees, who accompanied Helga Nuell during her visit, also made him express this.

A necessary project

The construction of the new residence is a project included in the strategic plan for the years 2021-2024 of the Foundation, to which a total investment of €2,750,000 has been allocated for its execution. The new residential facility will be located around the Monastery of Sant Daniel and will create 30 new residential accommodation places for people with intellectual disabilities.

Today the Foundation has 130 residential accommodation places distributed between Girona, Cassà de la Selva, Llagostera and Sarrià de Ter together with which the new equipment aims to respond to the growing social needs of users over the coming years .

The equipment, which will be built in an area attached to the monastery, will not interfere with the monastic life of the Benedictine nuns as it will function independently in the area now occupied by the old chicken coop.

Other actions

Within the same 2021-2024 framework, the Foundation has also promoted the remodeling of a home on Carrer Finestrelles in Girona, which will allow the space of the home to be adapted to the needs of people who require extensive and generalized support . The budget for this project is €10,000.

Likewise, the Foundation has started the first technical studies for the construction of a new Day Care Center on Carrer Saragossa in Girona.
